The AEC was created as a nonprofit with a $419k grant from the Minneapolis Foundation in 2022.

9 institutional roles for $280,756

From the AEC IRS 990 in 2023: They spent $275k, and all they accomplished was getting 25 kids to testify at a board meeting:

"In the 2023-24 school year, our programming included 25 students of color in leadership and advocacy activities such as participation in school board meetings and public comments, community dialogues with policymakers, and canvassing.."

This is from the AEC 2022 IRS 990, describing the purpose of the org:

"Develop a coalition of stakeholders parents, students and MPS employees to work with and hold accountable Minneapolis Public Schools to eliminate institutional racism in the system"

It's worth noting that the funders of AEC are fundamentally racist, creating and supporting deliberately segregated charter schools in areas of concentrated racial poverty, that, for the most part, get terrible test scores. Many have actually closed for various reasons. AEC has nothing to say about those schools in Minneapolis.
